What is the
Deposit Value?

When you purchase a beverage, a €0.10 deposit is applied as a refundable fee to plastic, metal, or aluminium packaging included in the volta system. This value is designed to encourage the return of used packaging, helping ensure the system meets its ambitious targets (90% collection by 2029).
To get your money back, simply return your empty packaging at a volta Point in acceptable condition. You can choose how you receive your refund: a voucher redeemable for cash, a store discount voucher, a loyalty card credit or future digital options. You are not required to spend the refund in the store where you returned the packaging—if you prefer, you can always request the refund in cash.
You can also donate the deposit amount to a charity, depending on which volta Point you are returning your packaging. These include Liga dos Bombeiros Portugueses, Cáritas Portuguesa, Liga para a Proteção da Natureza or Liga Portuguesa dos Direitos do Animal. If you wish to receive a donation receipt for tax purposes, you should contact the relevant charity using the number on your receipt, which serves as proof of the donation.
How to return?
Check that your packaging meets the following criteria:
Do not crush your packaging. To be accepted by the system, it must be in the same condition as when purchased, without damage.
Make sure there is no liquid inside and that it is ready to enter the system.
Many containers now have attached caps. Simply check that yours is properly in place before returning it.
Does your packaging have a visible barcode and the volta symbol? Check before inserting it into the machine to ensure it is accepted and carries the “v for volta.”
